Volunteers
CHOICE IN HACKNEY supports disabled people to live independently in their communities. Our volunteers provide wide ranging support depending on the need of a disabled person. Apart from befriending our volunteers provide disabled people with practical support: escorting, shopping, gardening, organising paperwork, assisting with using a computer.
This service usually involves regular visits and assisting with whatever activities a disabled person wants to undertake. We aim to keep this service as open as possible because we recognise that empowerment, independence and social inclusion will mean different things to different people.
We do not provide personal care, cleaning or anything that should be covered by a person's care package.
This project is funded by the Department of Health through the Royal Association for Disability and Rehabilitation (RADAR) for three years starting 2009.
If you know about someone who may benefit from this service we will soon be adding a referrals page to this site. In the mean time please feel free to contact us directly for any information about this service for you or a third party.
- We are also looking for volunteers to join the project. Please see the Volunteering page to download the application pack.
